SGBS Unnati Foundation (SUF), an esteemed not-for-profit organization based in Bengaluru, has accomplished a remarkable feat in the fiscal year 2023-24. The foundation, known for providing vocational training and social transformation programs to underprivileged students, has successfully trained one lakh young individuals across 12 states in India.
With a primary focus on rural areas, Unnati’s training program has actively included more than 50% women participants, emphasizing the importance of gender equality. The majority of the trained youth hail from government colleges and are in their final year of graduation. The success of this program is owed to the foundation’s strategic partnerships with different state governments, manifested through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
Ramesh Swamy, the Director of SGBS Unnati Foundation, expressed his elation on reaching this significant milestone, highlighting the organization’s recent achievement of becoming the first NGO listed on the Social Stock Exchange. Swamy further emphasized the uniqueness of the training model, where the dedicated trainers, known as ChangeMakers, have had a profound impact on the lives of these young individuals.
Unnati’s UNXT program stands as a testament to its commitment to empower youth through holistic skill development. The comprehensive curriculum comprises 165 hours of training, out of which 90 hours are spent on classroom learning that encompasses subjects like Values, English Communication, and Life Skills. Additionally, the participants engage in over 75 hours of self-directed learning through a specially designed mobile app, promoting a lifelong learning habit. The sessions, conducted in small batches of 35-40 students, take place throughout the year within government college premises and are offered free of charge.
